With an estimated 60% of workers needing training by 2027, companies face pressure to deliver effective upskilling solutions. However, only half of the workforce currently has access to adequate training, highlighting a significant gap in resources that fail to meet skill development needs or offer intuitive, accessible solutions.*
Upskilling, employee well-being, and data privacy are crucial to DATEV eG, a European leader in tax and financial software. Recognizing the importance of effective learning journeys, they sought flexible, scalable, and personalized learning solutions to enhance their content, experience, and mentor-learner interactions using AI.

Scouted Start-up: Stellar Labs
Stellar Labs' hybrid learning method empowers the upskilling of digital sector workers, addressing the technological skills crunch. Their AI-powered learning transfer platform, rooted in neuroscience, fosters impactful learning, enabling users to plan learning journeys efficiently, align on objectives, and assess progress through meaningful metrics, skill tracking, and expert guidance.

2. Matchmaking
In close collaboration with DATEV eG, we carefully defined the key search areas to ensure alignment with their project goals. DATEV was looking to test a tool that could provide valuable feedback on usability and deliver measurable results for learners, mentors, training creators, and other stakeholders.
To meet these goals, we outlined the technical requirements for a fitting platform and considered our global scouting efforts on start-ups offering flexible, AI-based and automated employee training solutions. After an extensive search, the most promising start-ups were invited to pitch to DATEV. Among them, Stellar Labs stood out with its innovative GEAR methodology, rooted in neuroscience and powered by AI. This unique combination made them the perfect partner for a pilot project with DATEV to test the solution fit in their environment.
3. Collaboration Set-up
The main objectives were to collect insights on how the AI-based learning platform affected the trainer and training author process, the learner’s experience and results, and how it facilitated self-regulated, individualized learning journeys. Additionally, the project aimed to identify the technical requirements necessary for implementing the platform at DATEV eG.
Alongside the project, TechFounders provided the start-up with coaching and mentoring as part of their accelerator program, which has been proven to result in more successful projects with corporate partners. By hosting regular check-ins separately with the corporate partner and the start-up, TechFounders ensured the collaboration ran smoothly and to navigate and mediate any challenges between the two parties.
4. Outcome
In just 2 months, DATEV and Stellar Labs successfully designed, delivered, and evaluated the AI-powered use case
88% of users found the GEAR structure helpful and clear, confirming its effectiveness in
delivering educational content.The GEAR methodology fostered a culture of active managerial participation, resulting in
86% of users completing the program.100% of users reported the platform was easy to use, contributing to faster and more
effective progress toward achieving key learning objectives.After the completion of the pilot project, users have continued to spontaneously create tailored learning programs weekly and invite colleagues to collaborate, establishing a strong foundation for a data-led learning culture to evolve.
